'The Bells Are Ringing...'

For contest. The subject- love. I know it doesn't seem like it, but allow me to explain.

The first picture I had drawn was super happy and the "love" element jumped out at you. But I could never bring myself to do anything with it. It felt empty. So I drew this instead. It's the darker aspect of love, the rejection and deciet and general sense of being trapped in loathing at rock bottom. I can't really think of any time when "love" has been associated with anything "good", personally.

If you've ever seen the animated PV for "Romeo and Cinderella", this would probably make alot more sense. But I'll try to break it down. Daveigh (the dark girl) represents the sadness and longing that come from unrequieted love. Silver (miss Cinderella) represents the almost obbsessive, unrealistic standard that we hold love to (i.e., the fairytale ending). The general background is for the mythos of love, the delicate, fancy perfection we expect it to be. The sad, bleak city? Meh, just how I feel about love.

Post Script- I finally found my scanner cord, so I added some textures in GIMP. The checker pattern on the bottom was painted, though. And the Cinderella dress? It's the one from 'Nightmares and Fairytales', of course! That's the only version of Cinderella I hold in esteem.
